What this project is about?

You’re so tired of the screens. You want to live life more, reconnect with nature and people?

How can you do that in a better way than participating in a project that is all about hiking and rock climbing while getting off your phone and getting to know people from other countries. Slide down and have a look on this opportunity.

Objectives

  • Increase awareness among participants about the importance of practicing physical outdoor activities.
  • Decreasing the time spent using social networking websites and movie streaming sites.
  • Rising the notoriety, in the communities where the participants live, of the importance of practicing physical outdoor activities

All costs connected to transport, accomodation, activities and meals are fully covered by the Eramus+ Programme of the European Union.

Where and when?

The project will be a 10 days youth exchange taking place in Balan- Romania between 16 and 27 of july 2021.

What happens after I sign up?

This is a project with limited places. Once you apply we will have a selection process for best applications. The results will be sent by e-mail within 10 days after the application deadline.

How is all going to look like?

Outroor Rocks is a youth exchange designed in three phases. Besides these, expect new freindships, cultural exchange, overcoming fears and developing yourself in a multicultural non-formal way.

First phase

The group will be introduced into a series of non-formal activites aimed to boost the team spirit and get to know each other, designed by specialised facilitators using interactive workshops.

Second phase

During second phase the focus will be on hiking and rock climbing. We will enjoy the stunning views from the top of Hasmas mountains while hiking to the Lonely Rock, the place where we will have the climbing workshop.

Third phase

Last days of our project will be dedicated to our communities. Together we wll design a disemination plan and work on the promotional movie and website of our project, to share back with the community the results.

Venue, accomodation, transport and meals

Venue

The youth exchange will take place in Bălan, a small town which lies in the Ciuc Depression. It is surrounded

by the Hășmaș Mountains and provides a breathtaking view of the beautiful nature. The town’s altitude is 850 m; this rises to 1792 m at the highest peak of the Hășmaș Mountains and the town is crossed by the Olt River which originates from the near mountains.

Accomodation

For the accommodation, we will face the facility of “Liviu Rebreanu” High School – that provides lodging of 3 stars. The activities will take place mostly outside, except when the weather won’t allow us to do so.

Accommodation will be arranged for maximum 2 persons/room, grouped by gender. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner will be served at the same location every day, plus the coffee breaks. Each room has its own bathroom equipped with soap and towels.

Meals

We will provide you with three meals/day and two coffee breaks (coffee and tea available). The meals will take into account all the participants dietary aspects such as allergies, intolerance, and preferences.

If you have any special requirements regarding food (allergies, intolerances, vegetarian, vegan, etc.) you are obliged to inform us in writing through the application form prior the beginning of the mobility. Otherwise, we might not be able to accommodate your requirements.

Transport

No participant can arrive later than the arrival day or depart earlier than the day of departure. Skipping the activity days is also prohibited.

After getting the selection confirmation email, a member of our team will get in touch with you to help you book your tickets. The process goes as follow:

1. You will show us what tickets you want to buy.

2. Our team member will approve them or help you find better options at better price and times.

3. You will buy your travel tickets up to the amount listed in the table bellow.

4. All the tickets will be sent to us by e-mail, including boarding passes and bank statements of each payment. This needs to be done before the project starts.

5. You will be reimbursed for your travel once the project has ended after signing a reimbursement agreement.

For all the groups, the transport from Bucharest Airport will be arranged by us, both ways with contracted bus company. There is no participation fee required by our organization for this project.

More accurate information about the transport, such as meeting points and timing will be provided for each group after the selection process is complete.

DEOR

DEOR stands for Dissemination and Exploitation of the Results.

Groups of participants from each country are required to organize a dissemination event in their community or school to communicate the result of the youth exchange to the community. Participants are encouraged to do a presentation of any kind in order to show their learning process and experiences they had in the project.

A special introductory preparation on how to do this will be presented by the project team in one of the activity days.

In the area of Balan, the average temperature in July is between 15 °C and 25 °C. Please check accuweather.com for more updated information about the weather

Dress Code

Casual comfortable sportswear, slippers or sneakers for indoor and comfortable shoes for outdoor activities, we higly recommend   you hiking boots. The shoes required for climbing workshop will be provided by us. According to the meteorological release, we do not expect rain during our mobility, but you never know, so you could pack a waterproof jacket just in case.

Intercultural evenings

Each country is expected to prepare a short program to present their culture and eventually to bring some typical local drinks and snacks. The intercultural evening is the time when participants have the opportunity to get to know each other’s culture better in an informal context. We encourage the participants to be as creative as possible in presenting their culture, to use theatre, dances or live presentations. We do not provide video-projector for this event and any kind of promotional video or power point presentation will be presented exclusively in spare time.

Insurance

All the participants are required to have a valid travel insurance for the whole period of the projects including the travel days. The insurance must cover:

  • Third party liability
  • Lost or stolen baggage.
  • Accident and serious illness.

We cannot accept participants without travel insurance. Supplementary, we also recommend our participants to get the European health insurance card.

COVID-19

We will hold as many activities as possible outside. Accomodation will be done with maximim 2 persons per room. The whole accomodation unit will be rented only for the purpose of our project, without foreign guests.

Being a project applied in 2019, our budget does not cover the potential cost of covid-19 tests or other quarantine costs. We highly recommand you to get a covid-19 vaccine so you can enter Romania and get back home without restrictions.

Requirements

1. Be aged between 18 and 25 years old.

2. Be a resident in one of the countries listed in the table above.

3. Have interest into the topic of rock climbing and hiking.

4. Be present for the whole duration of the program and commit to be involved into the DEOR plan.

5. Be willing to get an insurance as described above.

NOTE:  The English level of the participants is not a criteria of selection, but a great opportunity for themselves to develop it, benefiting of help and support during all days of the project.
